Individual hotel booking rates in Greece are expected to increase by 10-15%

Individual booking rates for hotels should ascend this summer from 10 to 15%, said Hellenic Federation of Hoteliers (POX) President Grigoris Tasiosadding that soaring energy and product prices are expected to have a 25% impact on hotel costs, an increase they cannot fully absorb.

“Prices cannot stay the same, industry cannot afford to absorb market increases, especially in energy. For individual bookings, we see an increase of 5-10%,” Tasios said in an interview with public broadcaster ERT this week.

Tasios, who is also vice-president of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE)said it expects tourism performance in 2022 to be improved compared to 2021 with some destinations such as Athens is already experiencing tourist flows. But he added that there were differences depending on the region.

Finally, he said that hoteliers expect two state-funded tourism programs – Tourism for All and Social Tourism Program – to help boost domestic travel.

“It’s important to be able to do things online that will make it easier for both the guest and the hotelier,” Tasios said.

Meanwhile, in relevant news, according to the latest data from the Institute for Tourism Research and Prospective (ITEP)the average occupancy rate for hotels in Greece operating year-round in April fell by 50%.

ITEP said 90.3% of all year-round hotels were open in April, with an average occupancy rate of 48.7% and an average double room rate of 62 euros.
