Mumbai: Central Railway passengers can now enjoy modern rest facilities at comparatively cheaper fares at CSMT. The Central Railway (CR) launched a pod hotel service at the terminus on Friday as part of a non-fare revenue scheme. Reservations have already started. On Friday, eight pods (including a family pod) were only reserved until 8 p.m.
A pod hotel has several small, bed-sized capsules and offers affordable overnight accommodation. This is the second such facility (the city’s 1st train station pod hotel started at Mumbai Central in November 2021) undertaken in Mumbai.
Asked about the tariffs, a senior CR official said: “The contractor will implement a dynamic pricing policy. The rates range from Rs 499 for a single pod, Rs 999 for a double bed pod and Rs 1,500 for a family pod, respectively, for 12 hours, which may increase depending on the availability of pods.
“After 50% occupancy, the reservation amount will increase by Rs 100, which will further increase according to demand,” said hotel operator CSMT pod, which has 30 single pods (including eight reserved to women), six double bed pods, and four family pods. Each family pod section is for two people.
“This facility will be a game-changer, especially for people traveling on business. The concept will best suit frequent travelers, individual travelers, corporate executives and study groups, etc.,” said a CR official.
